Programme Lead (COO)

Apply for this role

Run the engine room of BMLSIA: programmes, teams, and operations, so the mission keeps moving without the founder in every loop.

BMLSIA trains biomedical scientists to build tech driven health solutions. We run cohorts, fellowships, ambassador networks, webinars, and medical outreaches. We are growing fast, and the work needs an owner.

As Programme Lead (COO), you are that owner. You run day to day operations across BMLSIA and make sure every programme is delivered well, on time, and to a standard we are proud of. You are the first point of escalation for the team, so most problems get solved before they reach the founder.

You work directly with the founder, the Head of Medical Outreach, and every department lead. You turn vision into systems, systems into routines, and routines into results.

This role is for a senior, organized leader who stays calm under pressure and builds things that outlast them. If you can run a team without needing to be in every conversation, you belong here.

Responsibilities

  • Programme delivery: own cohort operations, programme quality, and member experience from start to finish

  • First escalation: handle programme and operations issues before they reach the founder

  • Team leadership: guide department leads, set priorities, and keep every team accountable

  • Systems: write and maintain SOPs for recurring work, so nothing depends on one person

  • Decision rules: build and maintain the decision authority matrix and escalation path

  • Team rhythm: run the weekly team sync and keep communication channels clean

  • Planning: build programme calendars and timelines across cohorts, fellowships, webinars, and outreaches

  • Cross team work: align Communications, Outreach, Partnerships, and Programmes so launches land together

  • Volunteer operations: work with the HR Lead and Volunteer Coordinator to recruit, onboard, and retain people

  • Metrics: track programme KPIs, completion rates, member satisfaction, and team output

  • Reporting: send the founder a clear weekly and monthly operations report

  • Risk: spot delays, gaps, and burnout early, and fix them before they spread

  • Hiring support: help screen and onboard department leads and new team members

Requirements

  • Leadership: proven experience leading teams, projects, or programmes, ideally with volunteers

  • Operations: has run something with deadlines, deliverables, and many moving parts

  • Systems thinking: can turn messy processes into clear SOPs and checklists

  • Project tools: comfortable with tools like Notion, Trello, Asana, Google Workspace, or similar

  • Communication: clear, direct, and professional in writing and in meetings

  • Judgment: knows what to decide alone, what to share, and what to escalate

  • Ownership: follows through without being chased

  • Calm under pressure: stays steady when plans change or things break

  • Availability: reliable internet and consistent weekly hours

  • Bonus: background in health, science, or tech education

  • Bonus: experience running cohorts, fellowships, accelerators, or community programmes

  • Bonus: experience with NGOs, startups, or student organizations

  • Bonus: familiarity with data tracking, KPIs, and reporting

What you get

  • Work directly with the founder and shape how BMLSIA operates

  • Lead a growing team across programmes, outreach, and community

  • Visible leadership role in a fast growing HealthTech education company

  • Remote friendly, flexible hours

  • Leadership certificate and reference on successful completion

  • Stipend track as revenue grows

  • Room to grow into a permanent executive role
