Keep BMLSIA legal, compliant, and protected as it handles patient data, donor data, payments, and partnerships.
BMLSIA trains biomedical scientists to build tech driven health solutions. Our products handle patient records, blood donor data, and payments. We sign partnerships, sponsorships, and grants. We work with hundreds of volunteers and ambassadors. All of this carries legal responsibility.
As Legal & Compliance Advisor, you keep us on the right side of it. You advise on data protection, review contracts, and make sure BMLSIA’s policies, agreements, and registrations are solid. You are a part time advisor, not a full time lawyer, so you focus on what matters most and flag risks early.
You work closely with the founder, Programme Lead, Partnerships Coordinator, and Finance Officer, and with other team members when needed.
This role is for a lawyer or compliance professional who explains things in plain language and helps a young organization grow safely. If you can protect a mission without slowing it down, you belong here.
Responsibilities
Data protection: guide BMLSIA’s compliance with Nigerian data protection law, including consent, storage, access, and breach response
Health and donor data: advise on how OutEMReach, Pintra, and LabiQuest collect and handle sensitive data
Policies: draft and update privacy policies, terms of use, and cookie notices for every product
Partnerships: review MOUs, sponsorship agreements, and grant contracts before they are signed
Templates: build reusable templates for MOUs, sponsor agreements, and partner terms

Risk: keep a simple register of legal risks and tell the founder what needs action
Team guidance: answer legal questions from the team in plain language and write short guides
Reporting: send the Programme Lead a clear monthly note on open issues, risks, and renewals
Requirements
Qualification: law degree and call to the Nigerian Bar, or proven compliance experience in a relevant field
Data protection: working knowledge of Nigeria’s data protection framework and how it applies to health data
Contracts: experience drafting or reviewing MOUs, service agreements, or partnership documents
Plain language: explains legal points so non lawyers can act on them
Practicality: gives usable advice for a small, fast moving team, not theory
Confidentiality: handles sensitive information with care
Judgment: knows what is urgent, what can wait, and what needs outside counsel
Responsiveness: replies within agreed timeframes
Reliability: stable internet and consistent weekly hours
Bonus: experience in health law, technology law, or NGO and nonprofit law
